Susan-ColganSusan Colgan (McCathie) – Founder & Director

Susan is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen where she studied music teaching before earning a place at the Royal Academy of Music in London on the post-graduate musical theatre course. Susan has been a professional singer for many years and enjoys singing in an array of styles and genres. She currently teaches singing at the High School of Dundee and has previously worked as a classroom music teacher both in primary and secondary schools. She has worked with many industry professionals including Brian May and Jason Robert Brown and has performed as a singer, and actress in varying roles throughout her career. These include the roles of Susan in Company; Saraghina in Nine; Constance in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Sorcerer. Susan has also performed as a soloist in works such as Faure’s Requiem; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater; Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Messiah to name but a few. She is a regular soloist in and around Dundee and enjoys performing an eclectic mix of music. Susan is a keen songwriter and has previously released an EP of original material.

Susan is passionate about providing top class education to young talent as well as encouraging the more mature students to dust off their vocal chords and sharpen up their musical skills!

Northern Star Academy is a new gateway for up and coming talent to learn what it takes to be in the performing arts and popular music industry and will provide a solid foundation and starting point for all those with a passion for the arts!

Emma Aspinall Bailey – Events & Marketing

Emma has a strong business mind and a passion for singing!  With a degree in Business Management and over 15 years HR & Event Management experience Emma brings a wealth of knowledge to the academy.  She is meticulous and has a natural talent for creativity.

Emma is originally from the south of England and has resided in Tayside for the last twelve years.  She loves to spend as much time as possible with her young family and when she isn’t working or driving to various kids clubs you can find her either befriending international students at St. Andrews University, running the local brownies or baking a lot of cakes!  Her favourite musical is West Side Story and she is currently listening to Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons.

My name is Annie and I am 16 years old. I currently sing, dance and perform in Musical Theatre. I have performed in numerous shows and showcases and at present rehearsing for Sister Act where I will be paying the role of Dolores later in the year.  I am excited to be part of Northern Star Academy and looking forward to meeting new people and challenges.
